Jackson the Theologian

Jackson bounded up to Julie and me recently, and informed us that the devil likes us when we do bad things.  Julie clarified that the devil may like the bad things, but he never likes us.  Jackson said, "yeah, he's a jerk!"

"The devil's a poopy-head.  He's the s-word."

(Note: the s-word in our house still means stupid, and is pretty much the pinnacle of a bad thing to say.  Jackson decided to see how far he could take it, and we, of course, let him pass.)

reminds me of a couple of little songs i learned very young....5ish; you may remember me singing them to you - maybe not!  "the devil is a sly old fox, if i could catch him i'd put him in a box, i'd lock that box and throw away the key for all those tricks he's played on me.  the devil chews tobacco too - if you don't watch out - he'll spit it on you!"  and
"1 2 3 the devil's after me  4 5 6 he's always throwing bricks  7 8 9 he misses every time GLORY! HALLELUJAH! AMEN!  9 8 7 i'm on my way to heaven
6 5 4 i'm almost at the door  3 2 1  the victory is won GLORY! HALLELUJAH! AMEN!"
now what kind of theology is that?!

Mom, sounds like the kind of theology that made me smile as a kid.  I can't say i have a conscious memory of those songs, but there's enough vague familiarity to them that i get a warmth of comfort.
